Amazon has launched Amazon Explore, a new platform which it promises will let you “explore anything from lessons to landmarks.” It works via a video stream, with tour guides, instructors, and personal shoppers providing one-on-one sessions. Amazon says the video is one-way, meaning only the host is on camera during the virtual experience, but the audio is two-way so you can ask questions and make requests.

INSTAGRAM MARKETING

David Attenborough’s debut on Instagram last week landed him the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers. It only took the prolific broadcaster and naturalist 4 hours and 44 minutes to obliterate the record, previously held by Jennifer Aniston. Since then, his followers have more than quadrupled.

Aniston set the previous Instagram record in October 2019, gathering a million followers 5 hours and 16 minutes after her debut. David Beckham, Pope Francis, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also held the title in the past. But none of them have commanded the world’s attention for as long as Attenborough has in his nearly seven-decade career.

Google launches a new hub of holiday marketing resources to help marketers reach customers across Search, Shopping, and Maps. The mini-site contains personalized recommendations to assist businesses with reaching shoppers across Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Maps.

Reaching customers online is especially crucial this year, as Google points to a study showing 71% of US adults plan to do more than half of their shopping digitally.

WEBINARS MARKETING

In 2020, brands, businesses & marketers are leveraging virtual events more than ever and although some marketers once believed that “webinars were dead,” many are now rethinking that statement as they find themselves scheduling and promoting this exact type of event.

The interesting side of the story is what do the consumer saying about webinars and what makes them register to a webinar. Over 400 consumers were asked: “Which webinars are you most likely to attend in 2020?”, 27% chose, “Webinars that teach me more about a passion or hobby;” while 24% chose, “Webinars that entertain me.”

BUSINESS MARKETING

Google announced new performance metrics, specifically for Google My Business Insights. Google said “business Profile Performance reporting is moving closer to your profile on Search and Maps. You’ll be able to access more of the core profile metrics directly from your Business Profile.”

Google added “we start with interactions to let you know how often people have contacted you. More metrics will follow over the next months and will include detailed reports about searches and the number of people who saw the profile. After metrics are added to Performance reporting, the older versions of those metrics will eventually be removed from the Google My Business web and app platforms.”
