What Is Beacons
Bluetooth beacons are small, low energy Bluetooth hardware transmitters devices that broadcast their identifier to nearby electronic devices. The technology enables smartphones, tablets and other devices to perform actions when in close proximity to a beacon.
A Bluetooth beacon device repeatedly transmits a single signal that other devices with Bluetooth technology can detect. Instead of emitting visible light, it broadcasts a radio signal that is made up of a combination of letters and numbers transmitted on a regular interval of approximately 1/10th of a second. A Bluetooth-equipped smart device like a smartphones can see and connect to a Bluetooth beacon once it’s in range.
